In this guide we are going to explain
how you can export your video from Adobe Premiere to
Virtualdubb with my video server plugin v0.93. As an example we
take the sample file "Ztour" of premiere and
convert this this project to an AVI with Virtualdub. After reading
this guide you should be familiar with my plugin and can
start encoding your own video as AVI with your own
favorite codecs like DivX and MP3. In the guide we use
codecs that are installed in a default installation
of Windows so every body should have them installed on
their system. Please note that those codecs do NOT
give the best coding effeciency.
As source quality of the "Ztour"
is not very good, the quality of the output will also be
low.

Step 1:
First open the Ztour project within Adobe Premiere.

Step 2:
Select File->Export Timeline->Movie

Step 3:
This will bring up the Export Movie window.
Press Settings

Step 4:
Select the Video Server Plugin. If this
is the first time that you are using the plugin
click on "Advanced Settings". It is
normal that you get an CRC error the first time that
you use the plugin. If everything is correctly it should
detect that your are using Adobe Premiere and will load
the default settings for it. If you are not sure if
you are using the right
settings please verify them.

Step 5:
Because your source material (Ztour sample
file has a lower resolution than VCD) has not
the correct resolution for VCD, premiere can scale it
to the right format. Because we are going to create
an PAL VCD it is recommended that you set the Frame
Size to 352x288 and the frame rate to 25
fps. When you are done with this click on the OK button.

Step 6:
Now we are ready to start exporting. When
you click on the save button, the plugin starts and
creates the IPCserver.AVI. Please note that the
filename that you enter in the Export Movie window is
not the file that is written to disc. (For specialists:
it is the PIPEname to communicate to the Encoder).

When everything went O.K. you will see
the plugin window. DO NOT CLOSE THIS WINDOW.
Now you can open the IPCserver.AVI in TMPGenc and
start encoding.

Step 7:
The plugin is now serving and
the file IPCserver.AVI is written to disc. Now
you can open the IPCserver.AVI in VirtualDub.

Step 8:
After the IPCserver.AVI is opened
in VirtualDub, we need to select the codecs for
Audio and Video. Because VirtualDub does not detect
the bits per audio sample correctly, we need to
set this manually. This can be done by selecting
Full processing mode, and selecting in the conversion
window the source bits per audio sample.

Select Audio->Full processing mode

Open
the conversion dialog

Ase VirtualDub does not detect the bits per audio
sample correctly, we need to set this manually.
This can be done by selecting Full processing mode,
and selecting in the conversion window the source
bits per audio sample.

Step 9:
Now we are ready to select the Audio
codec that will be used when converting your project
from Adobe Premiere to an AVI. Note that the selected
codec in the figure below is not a very good
codec. It is just selected because this codec should
be installed on every system so everyone can use this
guide.

Step 10:
In the previous step we selected the audio
codec. Now we are going to select the Video codec
that will be used to code your video in the AVI file.

Select Video->Compression

Select the video codec that fits your purpose. Please
note that the selected codec in the figure below is not
a very good codec. It is just selected because
this codec should be installed on every system so
everyone can use this guide.

Step 11:
We are all set. Now you can save your
AVI. This can be done by pressing F7.

Step 12:
Now VirtualDub starts converting your
Adobe project to an AVI. When VirtualDub is finished
you are can play your AVI with e.g. the Media Player.
If you successfully completed this guide you can add
some addition processing in VirtualDub. (Video->Filters)
