In this guide we are going to explain,
how you can export your video from Ulead MediaStudio Pro v6.x/v7.0
to VirtualDub with our Video Server Plugin. As an example, we
take the sample file "Nature.dvp" of MSpro and
code this project as an AVI within VirtualDub. After reading
this guide, you should be familiar with my plugin and can
start encoding your own video as AVI with your own
favorite codecs like DivX and MP3. In the guide, we use
codecs that are present in a default installation
of Windows, so everybody should have them installed on
their system. Please note that those codecs do NOT
give the best coding effeciency.
As the source quality of the "Nature.dvp"
is not optimal, the quality of the output is also not optimal.

Step 1:
First open the Nature project within MediaStudio Pro (MSPro).

Step 2:
Select File->Create->Video File

Step 3:
This will bring up the Create Video File Movie window. Click
on the "Save as type" droplist and select Ulead Video Server.

Step 4:
Normally, the settings of the plugin are O.K. by default.
If you are not sure you are using the correct settings for this guide,
click on the Options button and compare your current settings with
these settings.

Step 5:
Now, all the settings are correct and you need to fill in a name
into the "File name" box and press save. When you click on the save button,
the plugin starts and creates the IPCserver.AVI. Please note that the filename that
you enter in the File name box is not the file that is written to disc.
In this example we use the name:"justaname". The name
is only important if you are running 2 servers at the same time. If you are
using 2 servers, the names may not be identical.

Step 6:
If the plugin in not registered, first a window
is shown to motivate registration. If O.K. is pressed, a
server window will appear.
DO NOT CLOSE THIS WINDOW

Step 7:
The plugin is now serving and
the file IPCserver.AVI is written to disc. Now
launch VirtualDub and open the IPCserver.AVI within VirtualDub.
(So open VirtualDub without closing the server window and MSPro).

Step 8:
After the IPCserver.AVI is opened
in VirtualDub, we need to select the codecs for
Audio and Video. Because VirtualDub does not detect
the bits per audio sample correctly, we need to
set this manually. This can be done by selecting
Full processing mode, and selecting the source bits per audio sample in the conversion
window.

Select Audio->Full processing mode

Open
the Conversion dialog
As VirtualDub does not detect the bits per audio
sample correctly, we need to set this manually.
This can be done by selecting Full processing mode,
and selecting the source bits per audio sample in the conversion window.
(in this case 16-bit).

Step 9:
Now we are ready to select the Audio
codec that will be used inside the AVI to code your
audio from MSPro. Note that the selected
codec in the figure below is not a very good
codec. It is just selected because this codec should
be installed on every system so everyone can use this
guide.

Step 10:
In the previous step we selected the audio
codec. Now we are going to select the Video codec
that will be used to code your video in the AVI-file.

Select Video->Compression
Select the video codec that fits your purpose. Please
note that the selected codec in the figure below is not
a very good codec. It is just selected because
this codec should be installed on every system so
everyone can use this guide.

Step 11:
We are all set. Now you can save your
AVI. This can be done by pressing F7.

Step 12:
Now VirtualDub starts converting your
MSPro project to an AVI. When VirtualDub is finished,
you can play your AVI with e.g. the Media Player.
If you successfully completed this guide you can do
some additional processing in VirtualDub. (Video->Filters)
If you want to abort the encoding, please stop VirtualDub
before stopping the videoserver.
