Exporting your video from Ulead MediaStudio Pro to TMPGEnc:

In this guide we are going to explain, how you can export your video from Ulead MediaStudio Pro v6.x/v7.0 to TMPGEnc with our Video Server Plugin. As an example, we take the sample file "Nature.dvp" of MSpro and code this project as a PAL VCD with TMPGEnc. After reading this guide, you should be familiar with my plugin and can start encoding your own video as VCD, SVCD or DVD. In this guide we assume that you are using TMPGEnc, but of course you can use any encoder that reads AVI-files and code them in any format.

As the source quality of the "Nature.dvp" is not optimal, the quality of the output is also not optimal.

Step 1:

First open the Nature project within MediaStudio Pro (MSPro).

Step 2:

Select File->Create->Video File

Step 3:

This will bring up the Create Video File Movie window. Click on the "Save as type" droplist and select Ulead Video Server.

Step 4:

Normally, the settings of the plugin are O.K. by default. But as the source resolution of the sample file is not correct for a PAL VCD, we need to change some settings in such a way that MSPro scales the video to the correct resolution for PAL VCD (352x288).

This can be done by clicking on the Options button and selecting the general tab in the new window. Afterwards, select 25Hz for the frame rate, and 352x288 for the frame size.

If you are not sure you are using the correct settings for this guide, please compare your current settings with these settings. If you are done, press O.K.

Step 5:

Now, all the settings are correct and you need to fill in a name into the "File name" box and press save. When you click on the save button, the plugin starts and creates the IPCserver.AVI. Please note that the filename that you enter in the File name box is not the file that is written to disc.

In this example we use the name:"justaname". The name is only important if you are running 2 servers at the same time. If you are using 2 servers, the names may not be identical.

Step 6:

If the plugin in not registered, first a window is shown to motivate registration. If O.K. is pressed, a server window will appear.

DO NOT CLOSE THIS WINDOW

Step 7:

The plugin is now serving and the file IPCserver.AVI is written to disc. Start TMPGEnc while the server is running. (So start TMPGEnc without closing the server window and MSPro) and load the profile. Because we are going to encode this project as a PAL VCD, we load the PAL profile in TMPGEnc.

Step 8:

Open the IPCserver.AVI file in TMPGEnc and press Start. Now the codec (client) will connect to the plugin (server) and reads the data from MSpro instead of the file. Please note that TMPGEnc gets the UNCOMPRESSED data from MSPro to achieve the best quality possible.

Step 9:

When TMPGEnc is ready with encoding, you can close the server window and play the IPCserver.MPG file in the Media Player or on a normal DVD player (when burned properly on CD-R).

You can prevent an error if you select File->New project before closing TMPGEnc. If you forget this, you will receive an error the next time you open TMPGEnc while the server is not running. If this happens, just click 2x on the popup box.

If you want to abort the encoding please stop TMPGEnc before you close the video server window.
